Lafayette Farmers and Artisans Market Celebrates 10th Anniversary
LAFAYETTE, LA – June 5, 2023 – The Lafayette Farmers and Artisans Market is thrilled to announce its 10th anniversary celebration on Saturday, June 10. The market opens at 8 a.m., and anniversary festivities will kick off at 10 a.m. with the ringing of the market bell, followed by a special rendition of “Happy Birthday” performed by our Cajun Jam musicians. This exciting milestone will also mark the induction of the Lafayette Farmers and Artisans Market into the prestigious Fête Internationale des Marches, making it the first market in the United States to receive this honor.
Over the last decade, the market has provided a vibrant venue for local farmers, growers, producers, and artisans to showcase their products and connect directly with consumers. Located under the historic oaks of Moncus Park, the market has become a cornerstone of the community, promoting sustainable and locally sourced food and supporting the thriving artisanal scene in Lafayette.
With over 60 vendors participating, visitors can enjoy a diverse array of local offerings, including fresh produce, handcrafted art, and ready-to-eat food. As part of the anniversary celebration, there will be a basket giveaway featuring market goods worth over $500.
Lafayette Parish French immersion students are invited to join in all-French conversations at Kevin Domingue’s French Table to celebrate Acadiana’s rich linguistic traditions. There will be an interactive children’s crafting area and other activities for kids.
Throughout its history, the Lafayette Farmers and Artisans Market has been a catalyst for the growth of numerous businesses, including Scratch Kitchen, Adorn, Gonsoulin Land & Cattle, Priya’s Indian Food, R2 Positive Culture, T Moise Farms, and Bread & Circus. The market has played a part in promoting local culture and community resources by highlighting organizations such as Acadiana Animal Aid, Second Harvest Food Bank, LA Soar, and the Acadiana Native Plant Project. The weekly Cajun Jam at the market has featured both Grammy-nominated and up-and-coming musicians, providing a platform for Acadiana’s exceptional musical talent.
The Lafayette Farmers and Artisans Market is held every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at Moncus Park, conveniently located in the heart of Lafayette. Free parking is available behind the market, and a complimentary, handicap-accessible shuttle service operates every 15 minutes, departing from Blackham Coliseum until 1 p.m.
